Dada Post lädt mit grosser Freude zu zwei Einzelausstellungen der Künstler
YounHee Yang und Yoonjee Geem, beide Koreanerinnen, die in Berlin leben und
arbeiten, ein. Das Zusammenspiel der Arbeitspraktiken dieser beiden Künstler
bietet eine einzigartige Gelegenheit zur Kritik an der globalen Kultur durch diese
sehr besonderen Arrangements. Jeder dieser Künstler ist ein resonantes Symbol
der südkoreanischen Kultur und der Internationalisierung seiner Gesellschaft, die
sich auch auf Personen, die im In- und Ausland leben, erstreckt. Beide Künstler
setzen sich mit Nationalität auseinander, die durch die Geschichte und Politik
von Menschen und Regionen ins Spiel kommt.

YounHee Yangs Charaktere, täuschend alltäglich in Erscheinung, strahlen eine
Aura des Surrealen - des Traumhaften - aus. Sie stellen nicht komplizierte
Handlungen dar oder zeigen übertriebene Körpersprache, sondern sie
konzentrieren sich auf den in einer geistigen Welt eingebetteten Menschen. Die
Hauptfiguren sind meist (aber nicht ausschließlich) Frauen, die in den schönen
Augenblicken zwischen Melancholie und Klarheit gezeigt werden. Die Handlung
wird weitgehend als eine zerebrale Erfahrung entwickelt. Dies sind Momente, in
denen die Charaktere in der sie umgebende Stille absorbiert sind, während sich
eine innere Dramatik still in der Psyche entfaltet.
Für diese Präsentation haben wir eine Auswahl von Gemälden aus zweierlei
Serien getroffen, der „Borderless – Grenzenlos I" Serie, und der Serie „Mothers",
welche ein globales Panorama von Müttern und Ihren Kindern aus den
verschiedensten Volkszugehörigkeiten und Kulturen aus allen Teilen der Welt
darstellen.. Jede für sich ist eine moderne Madonna mit Kind.

Spinnennetz
Yoonjee Geems "Spinnernetz" ist eine Installation, die sich mit dem zeitlichen
Verständnis von'Dauer' auseinandersetzt. Ihre Vorstellung von Zeit ist ein Maß
für das Intervall zwischen Ereignissen, das einem bestimmten Zweck zugeordnet
werden kann, oder auch nicht. Es ist essentiell zwecklos - Es hat selbst keine
definierte Form.
Während der langen Menschheitsgeschichtegaben uns die sich bewegenden
und sich ändernden Positionen der Sonne eine erste Vorstellung von Zeit und
Geschwindigkeit. Die Zeit ist sowohl das Jetzt, als auch das Später, weil es
durch sie möglich wird Zukünftiges zu planen. Die Geschwindigkeit und Dauer
der Zeit schafft auch ein Bewusstsein der Richtung oder Gerichtetheit. In diesem
bestimmten Verständnis von Geschichte berücksichtigt das Vergangene auch die
Zukunft und somit berücksichtigt auch die Gegenwart die Zukunft.
Die Arbeit "Spinnernetz" basiert auf dem Netz der Spinne, das beides, die
Heimat und zugleich auch eine Falle für die Nahrung der Spinne ist. Das
"Spinnennetz" ist eine Metapher, eine komplexe Struktur und ein Netzwerk - das
die zeitraubende Arbeit visualisiert.
Geems "Spinnernetz" verkörpert Zeit als Kunstwerk. Durch seine strukturelle
Referenz hinterlässt es das Spinnennetz als eine Form.

Dada Post is pleased to present two one-person exhibitions featuring the artwork of YounHee Yang of South Korea and Berlin, and Yoonjee Geem also of South Korea and Berlin. The juxtaposition of the practices of these two artists offers a unique opportunity to critique global culture in one of its most peculiar arrangements. Each of these artists is a resonant symbol of South Korean culture and the internationalization of its society, which extends to individuals living and working in the global theater. For both these artists there is a consideration of nationality, which comes into play in the history of people and regions.

YounHee Yang's subject matter, while deceptively commonplace in appearance, expresses the aura of the surreal – the dreamlike. They focus on human beings enclosed in a mental world. Her subjects are mostly (but not exclusively) women, who are caught in the beautiful moments between melancholy and lucidity. The narrative is developed largely as a cerebral experience. These are moments when the subjects are absorbed in the silence that envelops them, while their inner drama quietly unfolds in the psyche.
For this presentation we have made a selection of paintings, from Yang's Borderless series, and a selection from the series titled Mothers. The Mothers series is a global panorama representing women and their children from different ethnicities and cultures from round the world. Each is a contemporary Madonna and Child.

Spinnennetz
Yoonjee Geem's "Spinnernetz" is an installation that engages a temporal understanding of time and duration. Her notion of time is the measure of the duration and interval between events, which can be a period that is allocated or not allocated for a particular purpose. It is vacuous. It is has no form as itself.
During the long human history, the moving and changing positions of the sun, gave us our first cue of time as tempo and duration. Time is both now and later, as it is possible to plan for a future moment or occasion. Tempo and duration also creates an awareness of direction. In one understanding of history, the past counts in the present, and the present counts in notions about the future.
"Spinnernetz" is very much based on the web of the spider, which serves as both its home and a trap for its food. This "spider web" is a metaphor, a complex structure, and network - that makes a time consuming activity visual.
Geem's "Spinnernetz" incarnates time as a work of art. Through its structural signifiers, it leaves behind the spider web as a form.
