Macro/Micro: Photographic Extremes

Calls for Submissions - Oil, Art Gallery

This exhibit is about two photographic extremes, regardless of what you call them: Micro Photography (AKA Macro Photography) and Macrophotography (AKA Wide Angle Photography) we want to see your best work using these photographic tools. Microphotography reveals a world unseen by the naked eye. It often exposes patterns and designs that create sublime abstract images. Macrophotography gathers a view often larger and grander than can be gathered with the human eye. Both introduce distortions either through lens characteristics or stitching construction techniques that are creative tools used to produce these distinctive images. Juror: Felice Frankel. Science photographer Felice Frankel is a research scientist in the Center for Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Working in collaboration with scientists and engineers, Felice's images have been published in over 200 journal articles and/or covers and various other publications for general audiences such as National Geographic, Nature, Science, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials, Materials Today, PNAS, Newsweek, Scientific American, Discover Magazine, and New Scientist among others. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has received awards and grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, among others. Felice was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.

Call to Photographers - WANDERLUST: Travels Near & Far Photo Exhibition

Calls for Submissions - Oil, Art Gallery

Travel... everyone does it. From the freight-hopping hobos of the depression, to the jet-setting socialites of the 60's and 70's, to the stripped down "less is more" austerity of the here and now, travel brings us new landscapes and fresh faces -- whether we want them or not. Road trip, first day at University, a walk around the block or a trip around around the world, travel brings new views and fresh perspectives. And isn't that photography in a nutshell?

So wherever you are in the world, we want to see what you see on your travels. Spectacular or mundane. A grand mountain vista or the line-up at the airport check-in. From desert sands to ocean shores, the alps to antartica, a greyhound bus or a truck stop diner. TRAINS PLANES BOATS OR BUSES, show us the people and places of YOUR expanded bubble. A simple premise, open to physical or metaphysical interpretation (some trips are all the head!), this month 1650 feeds your wanderlust as we search for photos of travel, near and far! Open to submissions worldwide.

May 2012 Mobile Canvas Art Contest

Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Ceramics, Digital Media, Oil, Art Gallery

This is our second art contest focused on finding the best designs for the mobile devices in our world. As always, here at SolSketch, we see mobile devices as blank canvases just waiting for artwork. The goal of SolSketch as a company is to separate the underlying products in our lives from the artwork they present, effectively turning the increasingly necessary elements of our lives into opportunities for creativity and expression. More so than ever, as we see devices dominating our daily lives, we think there is an opportunity to express ourselves like never before.Curious what we're looking for? There's no set theme or goal, we just look for images that will look great on a wide range of devices. Take a look at a sampling of the past submissions (link available on the contest page on our site). Submissions have included everything from illustrations to photography to line drawings to high resolution photos of paintings. There are no set themes or goals for the artwork; rather, we just look for innovative and interesting pieces. After judging is complete, we will actually create the products carrying the artwork from the winners and make them available to the world.
