The new 47,000 square-foot building will provide up-to-date classrooms and labs for the following programs: RN and LPN nursing programs, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Dental Assisting and Licensed Massage Therapy. The building will be three levels and will be easily accessible from College Way. The College seeks to commission art works for the exterior and interior of the building. The majority of the funding will be allocated to purchasing the external art work. Interior art may be of different types: ceiling suspended, free standing, and wall mounted or hung. The art will resonate with the energy and vibrancy of the campus, educational mission of the College and the purposes of the building. COCC has six other permanent art installations on campus: Full Circle by Judy Speidel, Cascade Leaf by Robert Gherke, She Who Watches by Lillian Pitt, Alcove by Michael Boonstra, Angkor Wat II by Lee Kelly, and Landscape Elements by Betty Feves. National and international submissions are encouraged. 39 artists will be selected for the exhibit. The Embracing Our Differences exhibit will be displayed throughout the months of April and May 2012 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bayfront. Since 2004, the exhibit has been viewed by more than 1,100,000 visitors. The exhibit will contain 39 billboard-sized (16 feet wide by 12 1/2 feet high) images of the selected artworks. In the judges' discretion, an additional six "honorable mention" selections may be made.Final selections will be chosen based on artistic excellence in reflection of the theme "Embracing Our Differences".
